A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square album cover with a soft white background centres on a large red rose resting on the open pages of a music book. The rose occupies the lower-right portion of the image, its layered petals curling tightly towards a dark centre. Its green stem and leaves are mostly hidden behind the bloom. A separate leafy sprig sits farther back on the left, softly out of focus; its dark green leaves spread across the pale background and overlap the blurred suggestion of another red flower near the upper-left edge of the book.

The open book fills the bottom of the cover and angles slightly upwards from left to right. Its curved pages show faint black musical staves and notes, with the left-hand page lifting into a rounded fold at the bottom-left corner. The rose appears sharply defined against the page, while the book and foliage behind it are softened by shallow focus. The palette is mainly white and pale grey, with the saturated crimson petals and muted olive-green leaves and lettering providing contrast. Light is diffuse and even, with gentle shadows beneath the flower and along the page folds. There is no visible border.

At the top is a broad logo: “Liênelli” in large red mixed-case lettering, with a small “CÔR MÊRLION” above it and “MALE CHOIR” below in widely spaced white capitals on an olive-green bar. Beneath the logo, the black uppercase line “SERCH YW FY NGHÂN” is centred across the upper third. Directly below and shifted towards the right, “Love is a Melody” appears in flowing olive-green script. The lettering sits in clear space above the still-life image. The artwork has a photographic appearance, with selective focus and softly blurred background details.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The image brings together two familiar emblems of romance: a red rose and printed music. The flower’s crisp, sculptural petals command attention, while the score beneath it suggests something quieter and more intimate, as if the page has been left open beside a gift. That contrast gives the cover a gently staged, keepsake quality.

The softness around the edges and the restrained white setting lend the still life a calm, sentimental air. The rose is vivid enough to feel dramatic, yet its placement on the book keeps it grounded in an everyday scene rather than turning it into an abstract symbol. The blurred foliage adds a hint of depth and garden-like freshness, although it remains indistinct, as though the viewer’s attention has narrowed to the flower and the notes. The neat, prominent logo and calligraphic phrase make the design feel formal but tender: part musical programme, part romantic card.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
