A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square cover shows a waterfall in a dense, leafy forest. The white water is the central focal point: it drops from a rocky ledge just left of centre, then sweeps diagonally down towards the lower right, where it is cut off by the edge. A smaller glimpse of falling water appears further back near the upper centre, linking the main cascade to a stream or pool partly hidden by foliage and shadow. Dark rocks and deep green vegetation enclose the falls on both sides, creating a shaded opening around the bright water.

Thick branches and masses of leaves frame the scene from above and along the left and right edges. The foliage ranges from near-black forest green and deep olive in the shadows to vivid lime and yellow-green where it catches the light. Small pale highlights pick out leaves throughout, particularly in the upper canopy and the bright plants at the lower left and right. The water is rendered in white, pale grey and cool blue, with broken dark strokes suggesting rocks and ripples. Its diagonal movement contrasts with the mostly vertical trunks, hanging leaves and waterfall. There is no separate border; the painted scene fills the square.

Two lines of lettering sit over the darker foliage to the right of the waterfall's upper section. The larger line, “Meilyr Wyn”, is written in flowing white script with ornate, curling capitals. Beneath it, “LET THE RIVER ANSWER” appears in smaller yellow-green uppercase letters. A third line, “Meditative Piano”, is set below in small pale lettering with a slight italic slant. The text is centred in a compact group and remains legible against the dark green background without covering the main white cascade.

The image has a visibly painted appearance, with loose, broken brush marks describing leaves, water, rocks and shadow. Light and dark areas are strongly contrasted: the cool, luminous waterfall stands out against the enclosed, almost black-green woodland, while patches of bright foliage suggest dappled daylight above and around it.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The cover feels like a view into a secluded, living space: the foliage closes in like a natural curtain, while the waterfall opens a bright route through its centre. Its diagonal sweep gives the still, densely packed greenery a sense of motion, as if the forest were holding its breath around the rush of water. The tiny suggestion of a further cascade draws the eye deeper in, though the scene remains intimate rather than panoramic.

The colour and brushwork recall illustrated landscape books and hand-painted nature scenes, with a heightened, almost storybook greenness. The dark canopy can feel protective, even secretive; the bright leaves and water offer a more restorative reading. These moods coexist rather than resolve. The ornate script adds a lyrical, old-fashioned note, while the compact lettering sits quietly within the shadow, like a caption encountered in the clearing. The image may suggest contemplation through its enclosed calm, yet the falling water keeps that calm from becoming wholly still.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
