Inside the image.
A square album cover with a pale, woven-looking background in off-white and light beige. A large black serif heading, “ABERJABER”, is centred near the top. Beneath it, a black rectangular frame encloses four roughly square illustrated panels arranged in a two-by-two grid, separated by narrow pale lines. The frame and panel edges are slightly irregular.
The upper-left panel shows a dark-haired figure in profile, leaning or reclining towards the right. Their face and a pale, angular shape beside it are drawn in black and muted pink; the surrounding area is mostly black. In the upper-right panel, a pale bucket with a curved handle sits against a black ground. It has a small dark rim and a few marks on its side. The lower-left panel contains a rounded, stippled form resembling a stone or mound, with thin pale lines around it and tall, narrow leaves rising at the left. In the lower-right panel, a small dark boat carries several large, pale, curved sail-like shapes; thin lines suggest water beneath it.
Below the framed illustrations, two centred lines of bold black uppercase lettering read “Y BWCED PERFFAITH” and “THE PERFECT BUCKET”. The lower English line is slightly wider. The lettering is heavy and condensed, with a serif appearance. The cover is otherwise restrained in colour: black ink and pale pink details stand out against the warm, textile-like ground. The imagery is flat and graphic, with hand-drawn contours and sparse internal marks rather than realistic depth or shading; the four scenes read as separate vignettes.
What the image evokes.
The four panels have the compact, emblematic quality of a set of picture-book images or small illustrated tiles. Their subjects range from a human profile to a bucket, a mound with leaves, and a sailing boat, but the grid gives them equal weight, as though each were a fragment in a visual catalogue. The bucket is the most literal object, while the other scenes leave more room for the eye to complete their forms.
The contrast between the dark grounds and the pale, spare drawings lends the images a cut-out or shadow-play character. The woven-looking background softens that starkness: it evokes cloth or paper with a visible grain, and makes the hard black frame feel printed or drawn onto a tactile surface. The sparse pink within the upper-left vignette is a quiet interruption in the otherwise monochrome scheme.
There is a curious shift in scale and atmosphere between the orderly title lettering and the small scenes below it. The crisp, formal heading gives way to slightly uneven lines and varied little worlds, creating an impression that is both composed and playful. The boat and its sails suggest open water, while the enclosing grid keeps that suggestion neatly contained. Taken together, the panels can feel like fragments of a fable or a child’s illustrated notebook, though the image does not settle on one story.
