Inside the image.
A square cover combines a loose landscape painting with a large title set against an open, pale sky. Across the lower two-thirds, a winding brown track begins near the bottom centre and curves up towards the left, then disappears among steep green hills. The nearest ground is densely marked with short strokes and patches of dark brown, rust, green and white. A white, cloud-like patch sits in a shallow valley just right of centre; beyond it, successive ridges in darker greens recede across the middle of the image.
The hills are irregular and steep, with a high dark-green slope at the upper left and a smaller pointed rise at the upper right. Rust-orange and ochre strokes cross the green slopes in bands, especially on the left and across the middle distance. At the bottom right, the land flattens into a narrow strip of brown and green. The painted scene has a rough, lively surface, with visible short strokes, scratches and uneven colour boundaries. Its edges are irregular against the white margin, particularly along the lower edge and at the sides.
The upper portion is mostly white, with pale blue-grey marks suggesting a lightly sketched sky and distant ridges. Centred in this open space is the title in three stacked lines: “CÔR” in muted gold at the top, “LLANSILIN” in dark reddish brown beneath it, and “CHOIR” in muted gold below. The large uppercase serif letters have pronounced contrast between thick and thin strokes; the circumflex over the Ô is clearly visible. A smaller line, “SAIN SYCHARTH”, appears centred below in dark blue, bold uppercase sans-serif lettering. The text occupies much of the upper centre, with the landscape beginning behind and below it. The palette contrasts the bright, nearly white sky and title area with the dense, saturated greens and earthy orange-browns of the hills.
What the image evokes.
The cover feels like a view encountered on foot: the track gives the eye a route into the hills, but its turns and the overlapping ridges keep the destination out of sight. That small white form in the valley could be cloud, mist or a patch of bare light; its softness briefly interrupts the more forceful marks around it.
The landscape has a handmade immediacy. The ridges are not smoothed into a distant panorama but built from visible strokes, and the rust-coloured bands make the green slopes seem almost worked or stitched across. Against this movement, the carefully centred title lends the upper half a composed, ceremonial quality. The contrast brings to mind a printed songbook or a place-name on a map, while the energetic painted ground resists that stillness. The result holds both a sense of shelter in the enclosed hills and a hint of openness in the pale sky.
