A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

The cover is a square composition with a mostly black background. A tall, narrow arched window occupies the right-hand side, rising from near the bottom edge almost to the top. Its pale interior is divided by a dense black criss-cross lattice, which forms repeated diamond shapes inside a dark, rounded frame. The window appears photographed: its edges are slightly uneven and shadowed against the surrounding darkness.

Behind the lattice is a small, brightly coloured stained-glass figure. The figure has a round, pale face, yellow hair or a halo-like yellow area around the head, and dark garments with patches of red, blue, white and yellow. One arm extends towards the right, where a narrow yellow object rises beside it. Below the figure is a blocky arrangement of coloured glass panels in blues, greens, yellows and pale tones. The lower part of the window is mostly pale, with a dark horizontal sill or frame beneath it. The image is dim overall, but the window and figure stand out sharply from the near-black field.

Large blue serif lettering reading “Meseia” sits on the left, around the vertical middle of the cover. Beneath it are several compact lines of much smaller text, centred and set in pale lettering. A further small block of text appears lower down, near the bottom-left quadrant. The text is visually subordinate to the title and window; some of the smallest lines are difficult to read at this size. The cover combines a photographic image of the window with typeset text, leaving broad black negative space around both elements.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The window has the solemn stillness of a chapel seen after dark: its lit arch seems to float in the blackness, like a small stage framed by shadow. The lattice makes the figure feel at once visible and enclosed, as though seen through a barrier or a veil. Its bright fragments of colour—especially the yellow around the head and the blues and greens below—lend the scene a quiet, jewel-like radiance.

The restrained layout sets that intricate, old-fashioned-looking glasswork against a simple field of black and a single oversized blue title. The result feels contemplative and slightly remote. The window might suggest devotional imagery or the memory of a sacred interior, while the darkness around it keeps those associations open: it could equally be a view into a building after hours, with the glowing figure preserved in a pocket of light.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
