Corau Ceredigion
Ceredigion Choirs
Album artwork for Ceredigion Choirs, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square cover combines a coastal photograph with oversized, semi-transparent lettering. The photograph shows a seaside town curving around a bright bay: dense pale buildings fill the lower-left and centre, while a crescent of beach and sea occupies the lower-right. A dark, green-brown headland rises along the left edge; low hills and a strip of coast recede across the upper-left distance. The sea is turquoise near shore and deepens to blue towards the horizon. Small dark structures and a narrow pier-like line are visible on the far side of the bay. The sky is pale blue, blending into a broad turquoise band across the upper part of the image.
Large pale lettering reading “Corau” and “Ceredigion” sits across the top centre, with “Corau” above and slightly to the right of “Ceredigion”. The bold rounded letters have a light outline or shadow that lifts them from the background. Much larger, faint blue letterforms extend beyond the edges of the cover and lie behind the main title, partially obscured by the photograph and other text. Beneath the title, a compact block of dark and blue Welsh text is centred over the sky and distant coast. The image has no visible border. Its photographic detail is softened, while the layered type gives the upper half a graphic, poster-like treatment.
What the image evokes.
The cover places the spaciousness of a coastal panorama in close company with language. The huge, ghosted letters feel almost like another landscape layer: they drift behind the town and sky, suggesting a name or chorus too large to fit neatly within the frame. Against them, the crisp white title has the immediacy of a sign suspended above the bay.
The view has both an inviting openness and a sense of compression. Sea and sky stretch out to the right, but the town is packed tightly along the shore, its buildings gathering around the curve of the water. The bright, cool blues lend the scene a clean, breezy clarity, while the shadowed headland at left gives it weight. The result can suggest a travel poster or a local place-name display, though the layered typography makes the image feel more like a designed cover than a straightforward scenic photograph.
