A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

The square cover is built around a large black hand-drawn inscription, “Côr y Wiber”, with an elongated, looping line that forms a rough oval around six small coloured dots on the right. The lettering and loop occupy most of the upper and central area. The first word begins at the left, the tall, angular strokes of “Wiber” rise near the centre, and the loop curves out to the right before tapering into a pointed flourish below-left. The dots within the loop are irregularly arranged and outlined in black; they are green, orange, blue, purple, red and a darker blue or violet. A further black flourish descends from the writing at lower left, ending in a narrow point.

Behind this graphic is a soft, blurred field of saturated colour. Yellow and orange glow near the upper centre, with pink and crimson toward the upper left and lower right, blue and violet along the left and lower areas, and pale aqua and cream near the upper and right edges. The colours blend in hazy transitions without a visible frame or border. The black lettering stands in strong contrast to this luminous background.

Small lines of white and pale lettering sit close to the bottom edge, partly over the coloured field. At the lower right, the clearest lines read “ANGHARAD MAIR JONES” and “MEIRION WYN JONES”; smaller role labels nearby include “Musical Director” and “Accompanist”. There are also two short lines in Welsh above the names, but their fine lettering is not fully clear at this scale. Coloured circular accents and narrow horizontal bands run behind and around this bottom text, including a pink circle at far left, a pale blue one left of centre, a purple one near the middle and a dark green one just right of centre. The artwork combines expressive, irregular black lettering and linework with a blurred, vividly coloured ground and compact credits.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The cover has the feel of a name written in one continuous, confident gesture, then turned into a small emblem: the sweeping loop encloses bright dots like beads, paint spots or tiny lights. Its sharp, birdlike points give the otherwise rounded mark a hint of motion, as if the writing has been caught mid-flight. The lettering is playful and individual, hovering between handwriting and a drawn symbol.

The background lends the image a different kind of energy. Its blurred blooms of colour might suggest stage lights, reflected colour on glass, or the soft focus of a vivid dream; none settles into a definite place. Against that haze, the black mark feels both immediate and slightly mysterious. The neat line of credits and the coloured circles at the foot introduce a more orderly, almost poster-like rhythm, grounding the exuberant central drawing. The result balances warmth and motion with a handmade, intimate quality.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
