A square album cover combines two portraits against a deep burgundy and black background. On the right, a large, sharply lit portrait shows a middle-aged man from the chest up, facing the viewer with a slight, closed-mouth smile. He has short, brushed-back dark hair and a full beard and moustache. He wears a black jacket over a pale blue shirt. His head and shoulders dominate the right half of the cover, with the dark jacket merging into the nearly black area at the lower right.

A smaller, inset portrait sits in the lower-left quadrant, framed by a narrow dark edge. It shows a younger-looking man seated or leaning forward against a muted mauve background, wearing a dark jacket, white shirt and bow tie. One hand is raised near his chest, and a small red flower is pinned to his lapel. The inset overlaps the burgundy ground and is partly bordered by the larger figure's dark clothing. The two portraits have different scales and backgrounds, giving the cover a layered, photographic collage appearance.

The background shifts from wine red and muted crimson across the left and upper areas to near-black on the right. Oversized, faint cursive lettering in a lighter red is partly visible behind the portraits, most clearly across the upper-left corner and along the left edge. The main portrait is brighter and more detailed than the surrounding areas; soft shadows define the face and beard, while the jacket and background recede into darkness.

White serif lettering is arranged in blocks on the left. Near the upper left, the largest clear text reads “BRYN TERFEL”, with two smaller lines below: “Y RECORDIADAU CYNNAR” and “THE EARLY RECORDINGS”. At the bottom left, over the inset portrait and burgundy background, “CYFROL 1” appears in larger type, followed by “VOLUME 1” in smaller lettering on the same line. Beneath it is the small credit “PIANO - ANNETTE BRYN PARRI”. The text is left-aligned and contrasts strongly with the dark red ground. The overall treatment is photographic, with the portraits, inset framing and background lettering assembled into a compact cover design.
