Big Leaves
Ep artwork for Big Leaves, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square album cover with a narrow white band across the top and a deeper white band along the bottom, framing a broad, soft-focus central image. In the upper band, the black uppercase title “BIG LEAVES” is centred in tall, narrow serif letters. The lower band carries “BELINDA” in smaller black uppercase serif lettering, also centred.
The central image is an indistinct, saturated field of red, yellow-green and occasional dark blue-purple. A large red shape fills most of the middle and right, with a rounded upper contour and a broad extension towards the right edge. On the left, overlapping yellow-green forms cut across the red: a bulbous shape near the upper-left and a longer, roughly horizontal form through the middle, tapering towards the centre. A darker green and brownish strip sits near the lower-left, interrupted by small patches of yellow and purple. Yellow-green also borders the image at the top corners and along parts of the right edge. The shapes have blurred boundaries and uneven colour, so the subject is not clearly identifiable; they might suggest an extremely close or abstract view of forms, but no definite object can be made out.
The central picture is cropped edge to edge between the white bands. It has no clear depth or setting: the overlapping colour masses read as a flattened arrangement, with the red area dominant and the green forms appearing in front of it. The colours are vivid but softened and smeared together, with small dark accents and patches of brighter yellow. There are no crisp shadows or clearly defined light sources. The image appears photographic or photograph-like, though its blur and indistinct forms make the underlying subject and treatment uncertain. The restrained, high-contrast typography is sharply separated from the blurred picture by the plain white bands.
What the image evokes.
The cover feels like a view caught too close to resolve: colour arrives before recognition. The red mass has the weight of a body or a curtain, while the green shapes seem to press across it like leaves seen through coloured glass. That resemblance remains unstable; the same forms might be folded fabric, a face-like profile, or simply an abstract arrangement produced by blur.
The crisp white strips and formal lettering give the sleeve a measured frame, but the picture within it resists that order. Its colours bleed into one another, producing a slightly queasy, dreamlike tension between the title’s suggestion of something botanical and the image’s more ambiguous, almost bodily shapes. The effect is intimate and disorientating at once, as though looking at a familiar scene through a fogged lens or a small pane of stained glass. The neatly centred words make the image feel deliberately contained, yet its blurred edges leave the eye searching for a stable subject.

Lettering & observation notes
- BIG LEAVES — Centred in the white band at the top.
- BELINDA — Centred in the white band at the bottom.
- The central image is too blurred and indistinct to identify its subject or determine whether it is a close-up of recognisable forms.
