Inside the image.
A square album cover combines a black-and-white photograph with large blue lettering. Two people appear in the photograph behind a large harp: an older-looking man in a dark coat is cropped by the left edge, while a woman wearing dark sunglasses sits or stands at the right. She faces towards the camera, with one arm reaching across the centre to touch the strings. The harp dominates the middle of the composition. Its curved dark neck rises towards the upper centre, and its tall frame and closely spaced strings angle down across the image. The figures and instrument overlap, making the harp the central link between them.
The photograph is tightly framed. A pale wall with broad horizontal divisions forms the background; the man's face and coat are partly lost in shadow, while the woman's face, bare arm and the harp's strings are lighter. The image is monochrome, with strong dark areas in the clothing and instrument against the wall and the pale strings. White, roughly tangled linework sweeps across the upper and lower parts of the photograph, like loose strands or scribbles, partly covering the imagery and acting as an irregular divider behind the lettering.
At the top, “Delyth Jenkins” is set in very large blue serif letters, spanning nearly the full width. Beneath it, aligned towards the right, are two much smaller lines: “Cerddoriaeth y Delyn Geltaidd” in dark lettering and “Music of the Celtic Harp” in blue. Across the bottom, “Ar y Ffin” appears in oversized blue serif lettering, with the lower parts of the letters close to the cover's edge. The lettering is clean and boldly coloured against the grey photograph. Overall, the design has a mixed photographic and graphic treatment, with the blue titles and loose white marks layered over the monochrome scene.
What the image evokes.
The cover feels suspended between portrait and performance. The harp is too large to read as a mere accessory: its sweeping outline and fine fan of strings turn it into a screen between the two figures, while the reaching hand brings the eye back into the photograph. The man at the edge seems to belong to a different moment from the woman in sunglasses, though the image does not explain their relationship. Their contrasting expressions and clothes leave the scene open to several readings: a posed musical portrait, a fleeting encounter, or a collage-like arrangement.
The blue lettering lends the cover a crisp, almost formal calm, while the white loops cut across the photograph with a more unruly energy. They might suggest strands of sound or motion, but they also resemble marks drawn over a picture, leaving the image slightly unsettled. The restrained grey tones and prominent serif type evoke an older style of record sleeve, yet the oversized words push forward with the directness of a poster. There is a quiet tension between the stately instrument and the casual presence of the woman in sunglasses, between the composed typography and the wandering lines. The result feels both ceremonious and informal, as if a formal musical emblem has been placed into an everyday photographic scene.
