A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square cover is arranged in three horizontal bands: a pale peach panel at the top, a wide colour photograph across the middle, and a matching peach panel below. The photograph spans the full width and shows a choir posed in a grassy field. The group forms a shallow line across the foreground, with a few people standing slightly behind others. Most wear long red or burgundy robes; several people near the centre wear white shirts with dark trousers. At the far left, a person in dark clothing stands beside the group. The figures are small in relation to the cover, and their faces are not clearly distinguishable.

Uneven yellow-green grass fills the foreground of the photograph. Behind the choir, the land rises into soft, low hills beneath a pale, hazy sky. The photograph has a subdued, slightly faded appearance, with the red clothing providing its strongest colour accent. The upper and lower peach panels are flat and unadorned apart from their lettering; their straight edges frame the image without a separate border.

Large dark red-orange serif lettering in the top panel is centred on two lines: “Côr Plant” above “Pencoed”. The lower panel carries a single centred line in large green serif lettering, “Alawon y Bryniau”. Both inscriptions have a heavy, rounded appearance and stand out clearly against the warm peach ground. The cover combines a straightforward group photograph with bold, simple typography.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The cover has the plain-spoken quality of a group portrait made to be kept and recognised: everyone gathers in one place, facing the camera, while the wide bands above and below give the image room to announce itself. The robes make the line feel ceremonial, but the open field and low hills keep the scene informal and outdoorsy. There is a gentle tension between those two impressions—the ordered uniformity of the choir and the broad, uncontained landscape behind it.

The warm peach, red and green palette feels both earthy and inviting. The red robes echo the lettering above, while the green title below seems to continue the colour of the field. The photograph’s muted softness lends the cover a modest, nostalgic air, like a community keepsake or a printed programme preserved in a family collection. The large lettering has a confident, almost signboard-like clarity; set against the tiny, closely grouped figures, it makes the cover feel at once intimate and proudly declarative.
