Ymlaen A'r Gan / As Long As I Have Music
Burry Port Male Voice Choir
Album artwork for Burry Port Male Voice Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square cover combines a photograph of a coastal harbour with lettering placed over the sky and in a white band below. The photograph fills most of the upper portion and is cut off at the right edge. Along its left and lower edges, an irregular white border with a torn-paper appearance overlaps the image. The white area continues below the photograph, leaving space for the English title and choir name.
The landscape is viewed across a broad expanse of blue-grey water. In the lower part of the photograph, a narrow strip of harbourfront contains small boats, moorings, low buildings and a pier or quay. A small white structure with a red-topped feature stands near the right side of the harbour. Beyond the water, a long, low, dark-green shoreline runs across the image, with a pale strip of shore or beach in front of it. The upper half is mostly open sky, fading from a muted blue at the top to a lighter, hazier tone near the horizon. The light is soft and even, with no strong shadows. Small harbour details are visible but indistinct at this scale.
Three centred lines of blue lettering sit in the sky near the top: “Ymlaen â’r Gân” in a large, slanted serif style, followed by “CÔR MEIBION” and “PORTH TYWYN” in smaller uppercase serif letters. Below the photograph, “As Long as I Have Music” appears in blue, in a large slanted serif style. Under it, “BURRY PORT” and “MALE CHOIR” are set on two lines in black uppercase serif lettering. The photograph and text have a restrained palette of blues, grey, green, white and black. The ragged white edge gives the otherwise clean, centred design a cut-out or torn-page effect.
What the image evokes.
The view has the quiet breadth of a harbour seen during a pause in the day. Water occupies much of the image, while the distant land and small clustered boats give the scene a gentle sense of scale: the landscape feels open, but the activity at its edge remains close and human. The calm, level horizon lends the cover a settled quality, as if the photograph were holding a moment of stillness.
The torn-looking border lends the image the feel of a photograph mounted or pasted onto a page. It softens the neat symmetry of the lettering and hints at something kept, handled or remembered. The two languages and the pair of titles create a further balance: the Welsh lettering floats over the harbour, while the English title and choir name anchor the lower white space. Together, these choices suggest a meeting of place and song without insisting on a particular story. The blue-on-blue lettering feels at home against the sky, while the black choir name below gives the composition a firmer final note.
