Take Me Home (Corau Meibion Cymru / Great Choirs Of Wales)
Burry Port Male Voice Choir
Album artwork for Burry Port Male Voice Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square album cover shows a small, whitewashed cottage set in open countryside. The building sits across the lower middle of the image, viewed from slightly above and at an angle: its long front wall faces the viewer, while the right gable end recedes towards the hillside. A dark slate roof slopes down on both sides, mottled with pale marks, and a short stone chimney rises near the left end. The front door is open and appears almost black; narrow red trim outlines the doorway and the two small windows, one on either side. A low, uneven wall of pale grey stones runs in front of the cottage, broken by the entrance and partly hidden by grass.
Bright green lawn fills the foreground and reaches the bottom edge, with subtle lighter and darker patches. Behind the cottage, the land rises towards the right in a brown-green hillside, while rough vegetation and low stonework border the left side. The sky occupies much of the upper half, changing from deep blue at the top to a paler, hazier blue near the horizon. The scene is brightly lit, with crisp contrasts between the white walls, dark roof and doorway, vivid grass, and blue sky. The image is a colour photograph, with a slightly soft, grainy appearance at this scale.
Three centred lines of lettering occupy the sky above the roof. The top line, “Corau Meibion Cymru”, is white in an elegant serif style with small-capital forms. Beneath it, “Take Me Home” is much larger, in golden yellow italic serif lettering with a dark outline or shadow. A third line, “The Male Choirs of Wales”, appears below in white serif capitals and small capitals, spanning broadly across the image. The gold title is the most prominent text; the lettering sits clearly against the blue sky without covering the cottage.
What the image evokes.
The cover sets a formal, almost ceremonial title against an unassuming rural view. The lettering has the poised quality of a theatre programme or an older songbook, while the cottage, rough stone boundary and open grass bring the scene down to everyday scale. That pairing gives the image both a sense of presentation and a sense of plain domestic welcome.
The open doorway is a small dark interruption in the white facade, a visual point of depth that also leaves the house unreadable from outside: it could feel inviting, or simply quiet and still. The expansive blue sky and vivid lawn make the cottage seem modest within its landscape, yet the centred typography gathers attention above it like a sign. The result can suggest a cherished rural ideal, though the visible rough stone and uneven ground keep it from feeling wholly polished or ornamental. Its clarity and saturated colours evoke a straightforward postcard view, with a mild tension between that sunny openness and the shadowed entrance.
