Choir Of Glan Clwyd School
Album artwork for Choir Of Glan Clwyd School, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square illustrated cover on a pale yellow ground. Four tall, narrow, pointed panels stand side by side in the centre, their tops shaped like rounded lancets. Together they form a continuous winter landscape, divided by slim strips of the yellow background. Each panel has a deep blue, lightly speckled upper section above jagged white mountain peaks. Ochre and golden shapes mark the slopes; below them are small dark brown buildings with yellow windows, patches of pale snow, and bands of green ground dotted with red marks. A few small trees and dark, irregular shapes cross the landscape. In the third panel from the left, a tiny figure in blue and red stands near the lower right; another small upright blue-and-red form appears at the far right of the fourth panel, though its identity is unclear.
The landscape occupies the middle of the cover, leaving generous pale yellow space above and below. Across the top, the large title, “Nos Nadolig Yw”, is centred in red serif lettering with dark outlines and a slight shadow. Beneath the panels, the bold black line “Corau Ysgol Glan Clwyd” is centred, with the smaller line “Yn canu Carolau Gilmor Griffiths” directly underneath. The lettering has decorative, old-fashioned serif forms, with pronounced curves and varied stroke widths. The image is flat and graphic, with roughly painted-looking shapes and uneven edges rather than photographic depth; fine speckling is visible in the blue sky areas.
What the image evokes.
The four pointed panels suggest narrow windows looking out onto the same snowy place. Their repeated shape gives the scene a rhythm, as though the landscape has been arranged into panes of a small church window or a set of illustrated book plates. The mountains, clustered houses and tiny figures make the setting feel inhabited, but the broad expanses of yellow and blue keep it quiet and spacious.
There is a pleasing tension between the wintry subject and the warm palette: the sky is a cool, almost nocturnal blue, while the slopes and open background glow with cream and ochre. The red title echoes the little red accents in the ground and clothing, drawing the eye down through the composition. Its ornate lettering lends the cover a ceremonial, storybook quality, while the simplified landscape feels handmade and direct. The result can read as both a seasonal greeting and a miniature stage set: orderly at first glance, yet full of small, irregular details that reward a closer look.

Lettering & observation notes
- Nos Nadolig Yw — Large red title across the top
- Corau Ysgol Glan Clwyd — Centred below the illustration
- Yn canu Carolau Gilmor Griffiths — Small centred line beneath the choir name
- The small red-and-blue upright form at the far right of the landscape is too simplified to identify confidently.
