Inside the image.
A square photographic cover shows a lush woodland scene, viewed along a path or open strip of ground that narrows into the distance near the centre. Dense green foliage fills almost the whole image. A large, dark, twisting tree trunk rises from the lower left and divides into long branches that arch across the upper half, reaching towards the right edge. Smaller trunks and branches recede through the middle distance; the layered canopy and patches of brighter leaves create a deep, enclosed space. Low plants and pale clusters of small flowers edge the foreground, while a brighter green opening is visible beyond the trees. The palette is predominantly leafy greens, from deep shadowed olive to yellow-green highlights, with dark brown branches and small pale accents. Light filters through the canopy unevenly, leaving shadowed areas beneath the trees and brighter foliage behind them. There is no visible border.
White lettering is laid over the photograph. At the upper left, the large two-line title “GORAU GWERIN” sits against dark branches and leaves; its tall, fine serifs and widely spaced capitals give it a formal appearance. Across the lower right and centre, a larger block of mixed-case serif lettering reads “The Best of / Welsh Folk Music”, arranged over two lines. Beneath it, smaller centred lines read “22 TRACKS · 22 TRACKS”, “Geiriau a nodiadau fu mewn”, and “Welsh words with translations and notes inside”. The lower text lies over darker, relatively open foliage and ground, though some letters sit against lighter leaves. The image is a full-bleed photograph, with the text integrated directly over it.
What the image evokes.
The arcing limbs make the woodland feel like a natural roof, drawing the eye beneath them towards the brighter centre. That tunnel-like arrangement gives the scene a quiet sense of passage: it could be a place to wander, pause, or listen, with the light ahead remaining partly hidden by leaves. The close, interlocking branches also keep the view from feeling wholly open; the woods are inviting but enclosed.
The white lettering has a composed, almost bookish presence against the irregular foliage. Its clarity and balance suggest the typography of a printed songbook or a collected volume, while the photograph retains the casual complexity of a real, overgrown place. There is a gentle tension between that ordered text and the unruly branching forms behind it. The result can suggest an old folk-song anthology encountered outdoors, though the image itself leaves the connection atmospheric rather than literal: a green refuge, a wooded walk, and words held clearly within a shifting canopy.
