Green Fingers
greenfingersmovie.com
An unofficial illustrated fan poster for Greenfingers (2000), written and directed by Joel Hershman and starring Clive Owen, Helen Mirren and David Kelly. A flower-filled courtyard beneath a dark sky brings together the film’s themes of gardening, friendship and second chances. Visit the Greenfingers fan poster page for more about the artwork and available downloads.
Inside the image.
A tall illustrated poster places a stone courtyard between a storm-dark sky and a dense bed of flowers. Grey-brown buildings extend across the middle of the image, their pitched roofs, chimneys, pointed windows and projecting bays forming a continuous enclosure. The central façade faces the viewer while the side wings recede towards it. Several small figures stand or walk along the paths at the foot of the buildings. Warm yellow light in a few windows punctuates the otherwise subdued architecture.
The foreground is crowded with tall pink and purple flower spikes, white daisy-like blooms with yellow centres, smaller yellow flowers and overlapping green leaves. The flowers rise towards the courtyard and partially obscure its lower edge. Their saturated colours contrast with the slate, charcoal and blue-grey tones of the buildings and clouded sky. A watercolour-like texture runs through the foliage, masonry and broad washes of darkness, with irregular edges and mottled surfaces giving the image a painted appearance.
Across the upper part, the title “Green Fingers” appears in large serif lettering: “Green” in emerald tones and “Fingers” in purple. Thin pale rules underline the two words. Above it, the names Clive Owen, Helen Mirren and David Kelly are set in widely spaced cream capitals, followed by “A film by Joel Hershman”. Beneath the title, an italic line reads “Hope grows in unexpected places.” Condensed pale credits occupy the darker lower foreground, with the website address and the words “An unofficial fan poster” along the bottom.
What the image evokes.
The flowers bring an immediate sense of vitality to an otherwise imposing space. Their loose, irregular growth pushes against the ordered windows, walls and rooflines, creating a visual tension between enclosure and possibility. The small scale of the figures makes the courtyard feel substantial, while the crowded foreground offers a more intimate point of entry.
The dark sky gives the image a sombre, almost storybook atmosphere. Against it, the green and purple title anticipates the colours of the garden below, connecting the words to the flowers across the full height of the poster. Warm windows and bright petals suggest pockets of care within the heavy architecture. Read alongside the printed tagline, the garden can evoke renewal and the slow work of finding hope in a difficult setting.
