Unwn Mewn Cân
Côr Gore Glas A Côr Aelwyd Bro Ddyfi
Album artwork for Côr Gore Glas A Côr Aelwyd Bro Ddyfi, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square cover in vivid pink and magenta tones. A large piano keyboard dominates the foreground, entering from the lower-left corner and sweeping diagonally towards the upper right. Its pale pink keys broaden in perspective near the viewer and curl upwards into a steep, almost vertical curve at the far end. Dark magenta and black keys punctuate the pale surface; the curved run of keys forms the strongest line through the image and leads the eye towards the top-right area.
Behind the keyboard, a crowd is suggested by overlapping head-and-shoulder silhouettes in varying sizes. The figures fill the middle and lower background, with smaller, softer forms towards the back and larger, darker silhouettes along the lower and right edges. They are rendered in shades of pink, plum and near-black, with soft pale-pink outlines or glows separating some figures from the brighter pink field. No faces or individual features are visible. The background is an even, saturated pink, with a hazy lighter area behind parts of the crowd. There is no visible border.
Across the top, the main title, “unwn mewn cân”, is written in large, flowing white script, spanning most of the width. A small white mark resembling a rising stroke or accent sits above the final part of the title. Below it, towards the upper right, two lines of smaller uppercase yellow lettering read “CÔR GORE GLAS” and “CÔR AELWYD BRO DDYFI”. The lettering has a slight dark edge or shadow that helps it stand out against the pink. The cover has a stylised, illustrative appearance: cleanly shaped keys and silhouettes are layered with soft glows and gradients, rather than depicted as a naturalistic scene.
What the image evokes.
The keyboard seems to turn into a path or a ribbon, lifting the familiar instrument out of the room and into the air. Its curling ascent gives the composition an improbable, almost playful motion, while the crowd’s still silhouettes make a quiet counterpoint. The figures could suggest an audience, a choir, or simply a collective presence; their lack of faces keeps them anonymous and allows the image to feel communal without settling on a specific scene.
The limited pink palette lends the cover a warm, theatrical glow. At the same time, the deepest silhouettes at the bottom edge bring a note of weight and mystery, as if the crowd continues beyond the frame. The keyboard’s crisp geometry against the hazier outlines gives the image a dreamlike quality: a recognisable object made strange by scale and movement. The flowing script softens the strong diagonal, so the design balances precision with a sense of lyricism and lift.
