Ti Yw Fy Nghan
Llanelli Male Voice Choir
Album artwork for Llanelli Male Voice Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square cover shows a dark, cloudy sky above a rough sea, with three centred lines of lettering in the upper part. The horizon runs horizontally across the image a little below its midpoint, separating the stormy sky from several bands of breaking water. No people, boats or land are visible.
At the top, large white uppercase serif lettering reads “CÔR MEIBION” above the broader, more prominent “LLANELLI”. A smaller line in pale yellow serif type beneath reads “Ti yw Fy Nghân”. All three lines are centred, with the first two set close together and the title below them. They sit against the darkest part of the sky, where the contrast makes them stand out clearly.
The sky shifts from charcoal and near-black cloud at the top to a luminous yellow-grey opening nearer the horizon. Uneven cloud masses hang over this brighter strip, with a few small, lighter patches visible within them. The sea occupies the lower portion: a thin, muted horizon separates it from the sky, while successive dark green-black waves and pale, foamy crests stretch from edge to edge. The nearest water is cut off by the bottom border. The image has no framing border or additional graphic elements. It appears photographic, with soft, grainy-looking detail in the clouds and sea; the overall palette is subdued and dramatic, punctuated by the cream and yellow lettering and the brighter sky.
What the image evokes.
The cover holds a contrast between gathering darkness and a band of light that seems to be opening over the water. Its low horizon gives the sky a heavy presence, while the restless horizontal waves keep the lower half in motion. The lettering, carefully centred and formal, offers a still point above that movement.
The image can suggest a coastal pause before a storm, or the moment when an overcast day briefly brightens. Its dark clouds and pale surf have a solemn, almost cinematic breadth, but the warm yellow opening prevents the scene from settling into pure gloom. The composition feels both exposed and contained: an expansive view of sky and sea compressed into a small, square frame.
