A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square, densely layered cover is arranged around a strong central perspective. A broad red-pink area fills the top and narrows towards the centre, while dark, glossy-looking bands of imagery sweep in from both upper corners and curve down the left and right sides. These flank a central corridor of repeated, arch-like forms. The corridor recedes towards a small dark opening near the middle, then opens into a green, water-like expanse across the lower half. Repeated horizontal ripples and a pale central track give the green area a vanishing-point effect; near the bottom, its forms become more symmetrical and geometric.

A bright yellow road sign dominates the lower centre-right foreground. Its diamond-shaped face is tilted slightly, with a thick dark border and a bold black arrow bending to the left. A reddish post descends from it to the bottom edge. Behind and to the left of the sign, a small round clock-like object sits at the edge of the green corridor. At lower left, a small figure in a red-orange garment and a pale head covering is partly cut off by the frame; a dark shape or lettering on the garment is too small to read confidently. Dark, human-like silhouettes also appear within the side panels, one on each side, though their features are indistinct. Near the top, a small figure in pale clothing appears against the red field, angled as if suspended or tumbling; its details are too small to make out.

The palette is vivid and high contrast: hot red and pink above, deep blue-black and mottled yellow-green in the side structures, and layered shades of emerald, jade and pale green below. The yellow sign is the clearest accent and draws the eye against the darker, complex surroundings. The imagery combines photographic-looking fragments with strongly symmetrical, mirrored and geometric arrangements. Edges and details have a rough, compressed appearance, with abrupt transitions between picture areas; the arching forms and reflective-looking green patterns create an impression of depth without settling into a single realistic space.

Small, widely spaced pale letters reading “seilam” sit near the top centre of the red field. The word “gwerinos” appears in widely spaced yellow-green lowercase letters near the bottom left, laid across the green imagery. Both inscriptions are integrated into the cover rather than set apart in a separate margin; there is no clear outer border or unused space.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The image feels like a passage through a place assembled from incompatible memories: a tunnel, a mirrored hall, a flooded road and a stage set all seem to occupy the same space. The repeated arches promise orderly depth, but their dark, shifting surfaces make the route feel unstable. The green corridor could be water, polished flooring or a patterned landscape, and the composition lets those readings overlap.

The road sign gives this dreamlike space an everyday instruction, yet its arrow points into the very maze that the picture has built. It brings a flash of graphic clarity, almost comic in its bluntness, while also making the scene more uncertain: a direction is offered, but there is no obvious road to follow. The tiny figures intensify that scale mismatch. They seem exposed amid structures that dwarf them, though the bright colours keep the scene from becoming simply ominous.

The hot red canopy and saturated greens recall the artificial intensity of theatrical scenery or a disorientating cinematic dream sequence. Mirroring lends the cover a ceremonial symmetry, while the tilted sign, scattered figures and collage-like shifts disrupt it. The result balances attraction and unease: it invites the eye towards a central vanishing point, then leaves the destination unresolved.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.

Lettering & observation notes
  • seilam — Near the top centre, in pale widely spaced letters on the red field.
  • gwerinos — Near the bottom left, in widely spaced yellow-green lowercase letters.
  • The small dark marking on the lower-left figure's garment is not legible enough to transcribe.
  • The figures and the small round object are too indistinct to identify more specifically.
