Goleuadau Sir Fon
Broc Mor
Album artwork for Broc Mor, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square cover combines a nighttime photograph with a vivid strip of coloured blocks along the bottom. Two men stand close together in the lower-left portion of the photograph, shown from about thigh level upwards. Both wear dark jackets; the man on the left has a light shirt and faces towards the viewer, while the man beside him wears a brown leather-looking jacket and turns slightly towards him. Their faces and clothing catch the warm glow of nearby streetlights.
Behind them, a road or raised route runs diagonally upwards from left to right, marked by a line of small lights that recedes into the distance. Several taller lamps punctuate the dark scene. A broad barrier crosses the middle of the image at a rising angle: its pale upper rail and rectangular wire-mesh panels form a strong geometric grid, with red and white diagonal markings visible on the far right. The sky is nearly black, with a faint warm haze near the upper-right corner. The image is dark overall, set against amber lamps and the brighter, sloping roadway. The photograph has a soft, slightly blurred appearance, particularly in the distant lights.
At the top, the words “Goleuadau Sir Fôn” appear in small orange lettering, followed on the same line by the much larger lime-green title “broc môr”. Both are set against the dark sky. The title has rounded, irregular-looking letterforms and occupies much of the upper-right area; the smaller words begin farther left. Along the bottom edge, a hard-edged band of saturated colour replaces the photograph. It is divided into vertical blocks and gradients of dark green, bright green, purple, magenta, pale pink and black, with the largest pink and purple areas near the centre. The overall design juxtaposes a grainy-looking night photograph and its diagonal infrastructure with a clean, graphic colour strip.
What the image evokes.
The sloping road and its lamps suggest movement through darkness, as though the scene were glimpsed during a late journey. Yet the two men remain still and close together, anchored in the foreground while the illuminated route slips away behind them. That contrast gives the cover a quietly cinematic quality: a pause at the roadside, with the night continuing to open out beyond the figures.
The wire barrier lends the composition a sense of separation and enclosure, while its repeated grid catches and interrupts the light. The bottom band changes the mood abruptly. Its bright greens and pinks feel almost like an abstract signal or a fragment of an electronic display, bringing a playful, synthetic energy to the otherwise shadowy scene. The image therefore holds several impressions at once: urban and intimate, nocturnal and vivid, documentary in its figures and setting yet distinctly graphic in its finishing gestures.
