Inside the image.
A square album cover combines a photograph of two men with a broad coastal landscape. The men stand together across the left half and centre, shown from about the waist up. Both wear pale, long-sleeved shirts with small red embroidered motifs around the shoulders and upper chest. The man on the left has swept-back grey hair and dark glasses; a tan stringed instrument is partly visible against him at the lower edge. The man beside him has short grey hair and a wristwatch, with his hands resting together near his waist. A second instrument, also partly cut off by the bottom edge, appears in front of him. Their expressions are neutral, and both look slightly towards the viewer’s left.
Behind them, a shallow, pale strip of water or wet sand stretches across the middle distance, with thin, white-edged waves curving diagonally in from the right. Dark, low hills enclose the coast: a rounded slope rises behind the men on the left, while a larger, darker ridge fills the upper-right background. A narrow band of blue-grey sky sits above the hills. The foreground is mottled with muted grey, brown and green tones, suggesting wet sand or shallow water. The figures appear somewhat translucent against the shore, so the landscape remains visible through parts of their shirts and bodies; this gives the cover a layered, composite photographic appearance.
The upper part is predominantly pale blue and grey, set against the dark green-black hills. The men’s cream-white shirts are the brightest area, punctuated by red embroidery and the warm tan of the instruments. The lower half is cooler and more subdued, with rippling bands of grey, green and beige. Large lettering occupies the lower foreground: “Caru Llyn” appears in pale blue-white serif letters, rising from the bottom-left and extending nearly to the right edge. The tall capitals and slender strokes overlap the men’s lower bodies and the beach; the final letter reaches the bottom edge. Near the centre-right, above it, “MONTRE” is set in smaller olive-yellow serif capitals with a slightly irregular, decorative appearance. There is no visible border.
What the image evokes.
The cover places the stillness of a posed portrait inside a landscape that seems to keep moving. The men’s calm faces and carefully patterned shirts feel formal, almost ceremonial, while the surf behind them keeps tracing its loose diagonal paths. Because their figures are faintly transparent, they seem at once present on the shore and held within a memory of it.
The muted colours lend the scene a weathered, reflective mood: the cool sky and water soften the bright shirts, and the deep hills give the image a quiet enclosure. The oversized lettering makes the title feel like another layer of the landscape, as though the words are being set across the water rather than simply placed over a photograph. The combination can suggest a keepsake portrait, a seaside postcard, or a faded photographic montage, though the image remains ambiguous: the men might feel rooted in the place, or momentarily superimposed upon it.
