Sobin A'r Smaeliaid
Album artwork for Sobin A'r Smaeliaid, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A childlike drawing fills a white rectangular page. Across the upper part, a bright yellow sun with an uneven round centre and short straight rays sits at the right. At the left are a purple oval and, below it, a small cluster of red and purple flower-like shapes. A line of large red handwritten lettering runs beneath them, though its wording is not confidently legible. Near the top edge, a narrow line of grey lettering is also present.
The middle distance is occupied by rounded, overlapping hills. A dark teal-green mass enters from the left edge; behind it, a larger pale blue-green hill rises near the centre, followed by a lower hill extending to the right. The hills are scattered with small red, purple, and dark marks, and their irregular outlines and broken strokes make them look patterned rather than smoothly shaded. A thin yellow-green strip traces their lower edge. Below, broad horizontal bands of pale yellow and white suggest open ground, with loose strokes and uneven colouring.
Two small, roughly drawn figures stand near the bottom corners, leaving much of the centre foreground open. At lower left, a figure in a pink-red top and blue-green trousers leans forward while holding a long thin implement angled down towards a small brown shape at the bottom edge; a pale, square-ended form sits near its tip. At lower right, a second figure in blue-green clothing bends or crouches beside a purple oval form, with orange and teal marks around the body. The simplified faces and limbs are outlined in dark, wavering strokes. The drawing is made with visibly grainy, uneven crayon- or pencil-like marks and loose areas of colour; there is no enclosing border.
What the image evokes.
The scene has the openness of a child's imagined landscape: the sun is oversized and emphatic, the hills are reduced to rounded bands, and the two people are placed like small actors at the foot of a wide, bright stage. The scattered dashes across the hills might suggest flowers, stones or simply decoration; their ambiguity keeps the scenery playful rather than settled.
The rough, hand-made marks give the page an intimate, immediate quality. Its colours feel cheerful, but the figures' bent postures and the long tool between them add a faint note of effort or purposeful activity. There is a pleasing mismatch between the expansive, almost sunny calm of the landscape and the concentrated little gestures in the foreground. The result recalls a drawing pinned to a classroom wall: direct, imaginative and full of details that invite the viewer to decide what is happening.

Lettering & observation notes
- SOBIN AR SMAELIAD — Along the top edge, towards the left
- ‘, I Q rhqw — Upper left, below the purple and red shapes
- Both inscriptions are difficult to read; the transcriptions reflect only the visible letter shapes, and the red handwritten line may not form reliably legible words.
- The small foreground objects and the figures' actions are unclear from the drawing.
