A square album cover combines a photograph of a single-decker bus with broad, overlapping diagonal colour bands. The bus fills much of the left and central area, angled towards the viewer so its front is at the lower left and its long side recedes towards the upper right. It has a pale roof and body, dark windows, a prominent dark front grille and bumper, and a small destination display above the windscreen. The display appears to read “NEWBURN BUS”, though the lettering is small. A front wheel with a reddish hub is visible near the lower centre. Trees form a dark, uneven background behind the bus at the upper left; the photograph is subdued and slightly grainy in appearance.
The design is tightly cropped to the square edges, with no separate border. A large teal diagonal strip runs from the bottom left towards the top right, crossing over the bus and dividing the image. Further diagonal bands in coral red, pale cream, mint green and bright magenta sweep across the right and lower portions, with a dark blue-green area at the top right. Their clean, opaque blocks contrast with the muted photographic scene, and some translucent-looking overlays allow parts of the bus and its windows to remain visible beneath them.
A pale rectangular title panel sits across the upper right, extending towards the centre. A vivid magenta inset holds the large white lettering “10 mewn bws”, set in a chunky, rounded display style. The title is the clearest and most prominent text. In the lower right, a compact column of small white uppercase names is set over the coloured diagonals: “CRAIG CHAPMAN”, “HUW EVANS”, “ELLEN JORDAN”, “MARI MORGAN”, “CATRIN O’NEIL”, “GWILYM BOWEN RHYS”, “LEON RUSCITTO”, “FRANCESCA SIMMONS”, “GWEN MAIRI YORKE” and “ANGHARAD JENKINS”. The narrow lettering is partly crossed by the diagonal colour shapes. The overall treatment layers a documentary-looking bus photograph with crisp geometric graphics and prominent, high-contrast typography.
What the image evokes.
The bus seems to be moving through a graphic scheme that has been laid over it like a set of brightly coloured route markers. The hard diagonals create speed and direction, while the old-fashioned, substantial vehicle feels weighty and almost stationary. That contrast gives the cover a curious double rhythm: the photograph carries the heft of everyday transport, and the stripes turn it into something lively and almost playful.
The limited palette has a celebratory, handmade poster quality, especially in the clash between the hot pink title block and the cool teal overlay. The white title looks buoyant and friendly, while the shadowed bus and dark trees lend the image a quieter, more nostalgic undertone. It could suggest a journey remembered through a bold modern graphic, though the cover leaves open whether its mood is more cheerful, wistful or simply brisk. The coloured bands both obscure and frame the vehicle, making it feel at once part of the scene and the subject of a design intervention.
