At the centre, a human hand and forearm rise from the lower edge, gripping a narrow, dark rod that extends upwards into the pale space. The hand is warmly lit in reddish brown; the forearm and wrist recede into a nearly black sleeve or shadow. A small reddish mark or object appears on the rod near the hand, though its form is indistinct. The central opening flares outward behind the hand, edged by smoky gold, orange and red, then narrows towards the top beneath a broad grey-white haze. Along both lower sides, the image becomes dark brown and black, with scattered fine lines, speckles and glints. The brightest area sits just above and behind the hand, outlining it against the darker lower half. At the top centre, a pale owl-like face emerges from the haze, with two round yellow eyes and dark pupils; the rest of its body and wings are indistinct and seem to dissolve into the clouded grey background. The upper corners are also shaded grey, framing the softer white area around the face. Large red serif lettering reading “GWYDION” stretches across the upper-middle, partly over the transition from the pale centre to the warmer side areas. Below it, a smaller line of widely spaced black capitals reads “CWMNI THEATR MALDWYN”. In the upper-right corner, a small “2 CD” mark sits against the grey-white background, with the numeral in red and “CD” in dark lettering. The image combines photographic-looking elements, especially the hand, with dramatic compositing, blurred smoky forms and glowing, spark-like effects. There is no visible border. ASSOCIATIONS AND AESTHETIC IMPRESSIONS The upward thrust of the hand makes the cover feel like a moment of invocation: a gesture reaching into a shaft of light, with the thin rod lending it the quality of a wand, pointer or candle wick. The image leaves the exact action open. The hand could be raising something, drawing a line through the brightness, or simply emerging from shadow. That uncertainty gives the scene a theatrical, suspended quality. The owl’s watchful yellow eyes add a second centre of attention above the human gesture. Its half-formed presence seems at once protective and uncanny, as if it belongs to the mist rather than to a fully defined landscape. The fiery sides pull in the opposite direction, suggesting heat, upheaval or a stage curtain lit from below, while the pale column between them offers a route upward. Darkness and radiance do not settle into a simple opposition: the light itself looks turbulent, fringed with smoke and sparks. The large red title has the weight of an old-fashioned stage announcement, yet it is set directly into a dramatic, almost cinematic image. The narrow line of Welsh text beneath it feels formal and measured against the surrounding flare. Together, the lettering and imagery suggest a passage between performance and spellcraft: a scene arranged for an audience, but also one that could belong to a dream, a legend or a half-remembered apparition. The cover’s warmth is intense, but the owl and the washed-out upper space keep it strangely cool and watchful.
